Georgia Senate Republicans are pushing an income tax cut that they say will help low- and middle-income workers by dramatically raising the standard deduction, returning billions of dollars to taxpayers each year. But to pay for it, their plan would phase out a key affordable housing tax credit, a move developers warn will bankrupt projects and sharply slow construction of below-market apartments for the same low-wage workers the tax cut is meant to support.
